Event Report – Sustainable Buildings, Brighton
Local businesses stormed The Keep… for croissants, networking and expert and case study speakers.
The Keep stands on the edge of Brighton and is the new record and archive office for local councils, museums and universities. Building Manager Elizabeth Hughes explained how they reached BREEAM excellent rating through incorporating a range of energy and water efficient and renewable technologies including:
- Living roof and rainwater harvesting system
- Biomass boiler
- Solar thermal and solar PV panels
- Roof lights and energy efficient lighting
- High grade insulation
Elizabeth’s presentation is available to download.
Mark Colyer from ScanTherm followed. He demonstrated how thermal imaging can be used to detect heat loss as well as other building faults such as leaks and water ingression.
He explained how when inspecting a building for energy efficiency don’t overlook issues such as air leakage and thermal bridging which can cause significant heat loss, but can be difficult to detect by human eye alone.
The Sustainable Business Network is delivering the events programme of the Green Growth Platform, a 5 year programme led by the University of Brighton offering a range of free and subsidised services to both businesses in the environmental sector and those looking to improve their environmental performance.
