Amberley 5Since launching in November 2015 the Museum Facilities Managers Forum has gone from strength to strength, with a third of museums and galleries in Sussex and Surrey participating.

All not-for-profit and many volunteer led, such organisations tend not to have a dedicated ‘facilities’ or ‘environmental’ manager with tasks instead tagged on to the responsibilities of an existing individual.

Unsurprising, it can be difficult for that person to find the time to research and tackle environmental issues and plan and implement energy, waste and water saving projects, despite often the financial benefits of doing so.

Just knowing where or how to start can be one of the biggest challenges.

The Museum Facilities Managers Forum tackles this barrier, and is helping members to improve the efficiency of their premises and reduce running costs. It is built around peer-to-peer learning; sharing ideas and experiences, helping others save time and money and avoid pitfalls.

There are some fantastic museums and galleries across Sussex and Surrey, that play an important and irreplaceable social and cultural role in the community. In a time of public funding cuts, the forum is helping them increase the sustainability of their operations so they may continue for years to come.

Amberly Museum 015The Sustainable Business Partnership CIC co-ordinates the forum, working in partnership with the South East Museum Development Service. We were able to source public funding to pilot the forum and cover the cost of the first six meetings, until January 2017, but are now looking for sponsorship so that it can continue after this date.

This is an excellent opportunity for a local business or organisation keen to widen their positive social and environmental impact.

As well as publicity for your organisation, through branding, press releases, social media and other channels, there could be a chance for unique volunteer afternoons and staff team building events at some of the region’s most interesting and iconic buildings.

A representative of your organisation would be welcome to attend all forum events to meet the members and follow how your sponsorship is inspiring and enabling environmental projects and efficiency improvements.
