Utilise Plus Case Study: Lighting Up Lingfield

Lingfield and Dormansland Community Centre, in Tandridge, benefitted from a grant of £1,770 for their LED lighting project which was issued through our Utilise Plus programme. Utilise Plus supports small and medium sized enterprises that are interested in installing energy saving measures on their premises to reduce their energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions.

Claire Thomas, the Centre Manager, identified that they were using inefficient lights throughout the building with operating costs of over £3,500 annually.

Claire said “LED lighting is the most efficient light source that is currently available”, which is why she was keen to get started with the implementation of an efficient LED lighting project.

Lingfield and Dormansland replaced the majority of their lights with LED panels and ceiling lights and they decided to install movement sensors in less-frequently used areas to ensure this project was ‘best practice’. “We will also see some savings from the motion sensors as the lights in areas like the corridors and toilets will not be on all the time.”

This project is predicted to save the Community Centre around £1,165 per year, by decreasing their annual electricity usage by just over 9,100 kWh.

Reflecting on the installation and her grant application, Claire said that the process went very smoothly with no hiccups and she’s very pleased with the outcome of the project, noting that “the light is of a nicer quality and is much more comfortable.” She added that “we would not have been able to afford it without the grant.” We are happy to hear we could help!
