Utilise Plus Case Study: A Hole-In-One For The Dyke Golf Club

The Dyke Golf Club in Brighton received just under £4,000 to replace their fixed-speed irrigation pumps with an up-to-date variable speed pump system. The grant was issued as part of the Sustainable Business Partnership CIC’s ongoing Utilise Plus programme, which helps small and medium sized enterprises reduce their energy consumption, saving them money and cutting their Greenhouse Gas emissions in the process.

The Club’s decision to install the new irrigation system adds to their existing solar panels, allowing them to save even more energy and reduce their impact on the environment. The new system is designed so that the pumps only run at the necessary level needed to deliver the required amount of water to the golf course, ensuring water and electricity are not wasted. It also operates on a pump and assist basis, meaning only one pump will operate unless there is a period of peak demand when the control system automatically activates the second stand-by pump.

This project is estimated to save the Dyke Golf Club almost £1,000 per year by decreasing their annual electricity usage by just under 7,000 kWh.

The Club’s Secretary, Martin Yeates, commented that “by installing this energy-saving project we will not only save money every year but will also reduce our impact on the environment” he added that “the Sustainable Business Partnership CIC provided valuable help and support throughout the grant application process.”
